Spending time in Chicago

I took a few days off from updating the blog so I could work on getting through a backlog of projects. I’m still not out of the woods, but I figured I’d take a moment to celebrate a fun project that I’ve been working on: Timelapse’s. [oooh, ahhh]

Ok. Maybe not that exciting off the bat. But it’s exciting for me because it’s a departure from the types of timelapse’s that I usually produce. Normally, I’m an astrophotography kinda guy. Most of the time it’s just me outdoors, all alone, fretting over the Bortle Scale. Not with these images. [But don’t get me wrong, I still fretted quite a bit.]

Ah, yes. CHI-CAH-GO.

Here’s a quick black-and-white timelapse video made of over one hundred still images. Most newer cameras come with a set-it-and-forget-it timelapse feature. It works great, and saves your timelapse as a video file. Because I’m a perfectionist and a glutton for punishment—I use a much more time consuming process.

These images are composites made of individual timelapse frames stacked in Photoshop with their opacities adjusted. It’s a straightforward process that is deceivingly time-consuming. But, in the end, I’m happy with what I got.

You can check the whole set over on my Instagram.
